INDONESIA: ANTI-UNION OFFENSIVE AT JAKARTA HOTEL GRAN MELIA: CALL FOR SOLIDARITY:
Trade union rights are under assault at the Hotel Gran Melia in Jakarta, Indonesia, organized by the IUF-affiliated FSPM. Under cover of an "efficiency" drive, management has illegally dismissed a number of union members, including current and former officers, barred union officials from the hotel premises and unilaterally terminated distribution of the automatic dues checkoff-workers'oney which it continues to collect. The Melia groups is the world's largest operator of hotel resorts with over 300 hotels in 27 countries, mostly in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Gran Malia Jakarta has been a stronghold of the FSPM, the fastest growing hotel union local in Indonesia and the region.
